Seattle Family Photographer – In Studio Imagination Session

As a Seattle family photographer, it’s such a joy to work with children on fun imagination sessions! This sweet little girl just so happened to be in from out of town visiting with family. Her parents wanted to take the opportunity to work with me during their trip. I was overjoyed to hear from them and beyond ready to get little Nora in front of the camera! We planned a session filled with imagination photos and classic portraits and I can’t wait to share all the details below.

The idea behind imagination photos is to put your child at the center of their favorite story or fairytale moment. One of the cornerstones of childhood is playing dress up or ‘make believe’. Imagination photos commemorate that special time when children believe they can be anything. Superheroes, magical woodland creatures, and storybook characters can come to life. For just a moment imagination photos allow us to step inside their world of excitement where anything is possible.

For little Nora, her family specifically asked about imagination photos that would turn her into a fairy princess. Creating the background of this photo was all about drawing on this enchanting idea. She transformed into a special girl who lives among the woodland creatures. She talks to the butterflies and leaves a trail of stardust wherever she goes. Her home was a moss-covered tree branch. There, the butterflies visited her magical forest realm to be dusted by her fairy sparkle.

Of course, to turn little Nora into a fairy princess, we had to make sure she was dressed for the job! For that, she needed a beautiful pink tulle dress adorned with floral flourishes and a matching headband. Naturally, to top it all off, she needed a pair of wings. Knowing that Nora would be living in the lush forest, we thought it best to forgo shoes altogether!

In addition to her time spent in the magical forest realm, Nora also wandered over to the fair where a friendly giraffe awaited! The great wheel was off in the distance as Nora and the giraffe conversed for a bit on the soft overgrown lawn. The most amazing thing about imagination photography is that anything is possible, if you dream it, we can create it together.

Of course, as fun as the imagination photos are, I always include a classic portrait experience with each session. Classic portraits are a great way to get the session started. They give your child the time and space to get used to the idea of being in front of the camera. I also know that all too often, my moms and dads have a special outfit in mind for their child’s photos. Those classic photos are the perfect opportunity to show it off! Needless to say, adorable little Nora warmed up to the camera almost immediately. She was full of bright adoring smiles the entire time! You can see her two imagination photos as well as the classic portraits we worked on together when you scroll through the blog below.
