Everyone deserves cake for their birthday. At least, that’s my personal motto, but especially if it’s your very first birthday. Isn’t that worthy of a photo shoot where you can dig your fingers and toes into a cake that was custom-made – just for you? This sweet boy is celebrating his very first trip around the sun, and yes, there was cake!

It brings me so much joy, to watch these sessions come to life! The birthday boy’s mama reached out to me to schedule a Classique First Birthday photo shoot. We discussed a fun rainbow theme full of warm tones. It was a wonderful take on a classic element that moved away from primary colors to something more muted, but just as vibrant!

Because of my personal motto about birthday cake (see above!), I include cake with all of the cake smash sessions. So I always make sure to order a cake that perfectly enhances the setup the parents have selected. The cake should perfectly complement the setup, without pulling attention away from the special birthday boy! 

This birthday boy had the cutest little romper on during his session. It was covered in a pattern of orange suns and went along perfectly with his rainbow celebration. The birthday boy’s mama also brought along the most adorable felt crown with a big number “1” on it! Although, she was worried that he might not keep it on for the shoot. Which, I have to admit is not too uncommon with birthday babies, they usually aren’t fond of anything on their heads. However, I told Mom “…most of the time, if they love the cake, they will forget all about the crown”. And wouldn’t you know it, my theory totally worked! He dug right into his birthday cake, and the crown was long forgotten.

We finished off the session with a “splash” in my mini tub. As soon as the birthday boy plunged in, he leaned right back on the tub, ready for a moment of relaxation after a tiring celebration.
