No Cake Cake Smash in Seattle
Sweet Esme’ celebrated her first birthday with a very special no-cake cake smash! Her mama contacted me a few weeks before her birthday and told me that Esme was not a fan of cake. At all. No way, no how. I have a feeling that may change as she gets older, but for now, Mom wanted to know if we could replace the cake with Esme’s most favorite food in the whole wide world…yogurt! What a healthy little girl! Oh my goodness, but of course!! How adorable is that!? After all, she is the birthday girl, and it only makes sense for her treat to be something she enjoys. I couldn’t wait to see how this would turn out.
Esme’s mama brought in five little containers of yogurts tinted in the prettiest pastel colors. Meanwhile, I had the balloons to match, and little Esme had the tutu to match! We kept the background simple and neutral to showcase the lovely soft colors of the yogurt, balloons and tutu – and Esme’s adorable face of course! Her sparkling eyes just lit up my studio!
When it was time to do the yogurt smash, we made a little paint pallet with all of the colors. When we put the dots in front of Esme’ and she smiled the biggest smile and just started grabbing handfuls of yogurt and eating all the dots. She smooshed the yogurt, ate the yogurt, licked the “cake” plate and had the most fabulous time! What a great idea, Mom! I can’t imagine a cuter replacement. Esme was all smiles, and I was so happy for the sweet birthday girl. I know they’re really going to enjoy looking back at these adorable pictures in a few years – and I’m sure Esme will get a kick out of her yogurt obsession when she gets older. What a fun story!
For those of you looking for non-cake options, yogurt is such a wonderful replacement for cake if a baby is not fond of cake or if baby has allergies! I love how these colorful photos turned out.
