How to Prepare for your Newborn Session-Olympia,Lacey, JBLM, WA

When it comes to getting ready for your new baby’s very first photo session we have a few suggestions and tips!

First, please try feeding your baby about 3 hours before the start of your session.  That way, your little one will be ready to eat when you arrive at the studio.  A baby with a full belly is a baby that will want to go to sleep for us!  Our studio has many comfortable spots where you can feed your baby and we allow plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, soothing and more feeding, so there is absolutely no need for rushing or stress :)  The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed your baby will be.

After you feed your baby at home, try to have some awake and alert time, such as giving baby a bath before the session.  This will help baby be ready for a nice long nap when you arrive to the Fairies & Frogs studio. For the ride to your baby’s session please dress your baby in something that will be easy to get them into and out of and that we don’t have to pull over their head, like warm and cozy pajamas.

What to bring?  For your newborn session there are just a few helpful items to bring along with you:

  • extra diapers (we have a supply of diapers here at the studio)
  • burpers,
  • wipes,
  • lotion,
  • a pacifier
  • a bottle
  • formula (if baby is on formula or is being supplemented with formula)
  • If you are nursing, please consider bringing a bottle of your breast milk, so that we might use it when posing your baby in those cute, squishy poses.

Breastfeeding Food Guide:

This list is a helpful guide of common foods to avoid while nursing. These foods typically affect babies that are 6 weeks and younger. We highly suggest if your baby is gassy to avoid the foods in this list 48 hours before your session.
Soda, Coffee, Tea, Wine & Beer
Cranberries, Pineapple, Grapefruit, Oranges, Lemons, Strawberries, All berries, Tomatoes or tomato products, Chocolate (rarely affects babies), Peanuts (nuts in general), Pizza, Spaghetti, Chili, Tacos, Salsa, Spicy Food, Ketchup
Asparagus, Onions, Cucumbers/Pickles, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage

If you are planning on being in the pictures with your baby, please wear a long-sleeve solid color shirt (gray, black, ivory) with no buttons or zippers.

Less stress is best! We supply all outfits and swaddles for baby’s session. So there is no need to stress about what baby is going to wear! We will handle all of that!

New babies cannot regulate their body temperatures, so for our newborn sessions we have the heat in the studio turned up, up, up!  Your baby will LOVE our toasty studio, but everyone else will get very warm, so please dress in layers so that you can be comfortable during the session.

This sweet baby girl enjoyed her photo session from beginning to end!
