Sweet little honey bee Miaa is celebrating her first birthday with a cake smash photo session! Celebrating first birthdays at the Fairies and Frogs studio is a big part of what I do. No matter how many times I see tiny smiles, and little fingers covered in frosting, each and every celebration is full of joy!

For this particular cake smash photo session, Miaa’s family chose a Classique First Birthday. This is my sort of ‘middle ground’ first birthday package. It’s perfect for families that want the best of both worlds for their baby’s first birthday shoot. I include one thematic setup of their choice, classic portraits, and finish is all up with a rubber ducky bathtub! Of course, the cake is always included and I make sure it’s in the studio and ready to go for my birthday baby’s arrival. After all, carrying a baby, plus a diaper bag, AND their change of clothes for the session is a tall order! I would never expect my parents to be in charge of the cake too. 

Honey Bee Themed Cake Smash Photo Session

Miaa’s family requested a sweet honey bee theme for her cake smash photo sessions, and I was on board to make it happen! I’ve worked with all kinds of animals in the studio. From elephants to foxes, and even dinosaurs! The “animals” are always fabulously friendly, and ready for a gentle and playful photo session. Miaa’s honeybees just hung back in their honeycomb, perched high above the flowers as she dove into her cake. Miaa’s cake design was a simplistic crumb cake, with a big gold one right in the middle. And when I say she dove into the cake, I more so mean that the cake took a dive! She tipped that cake right over and she was ready to get to work with tasting her first bite. 

I’d say the cake was a success because Miaa loved every bite! This sweet little birthday girl exuded joy with every taste. Not only that, but she smiled for the entire session. I’d call that a win as far as cake smash photo sessions go! To finish up, it was time for the signature rubber ducky bubble bath. But, to my surprise, Miaa wanted nothing to do with the “bubbles”. It’s true that with baby photography, each and every child is different and you’ll never know how they might react to something. So I’m always ready to adjust as needed to keep the session rolling. Miaa didn’t care for the bubbles, no problem, no bubbles! In fact, if I hadn’t mentioned it,  you might not even know the difference when looking at her photos.
