Baby milestone photography is all about capturing those sweet spots between the newborn days & celebrating your baby’s first birthday. Milestone photography is not a particularly new concept, but it is one that most parents haven’t been introduced to.
So often, baby photography, in general, focuses on two very big moments. The newborn stage, and celebrating your baby’s first birthday. Which are two monumental moments to celebrate; welcoming your baby into the world, and having the beautiful memory of singing happy birthday to them for the very first time.
With babies, however, there are so many milestones that happen in between those two sweet spots. You get to watch as they learn to sit up, begin to eat solid foods, start recognizing everything around them (and forming opinions on it!), pull themselves to standing, and of course, take their first steps. During that time they also learn the art of babbling and create their own language. Those little coos and oohs and ahs that moms and dads always seem to easily understand! It’s such an exciting time, and it all happens at the very beginning of their childhood.
Baby Milestone Photography
Sweet little baby Eddie is celebrating turning 5 months old. Is there a better way to mark the occasion than with a baby milestone photography session?! We had all the fun you could possibly imagine. From snuggling his teddy bear to laying on his tummy, sucking his thumb, and of course, eating his toes! Those tender, precious moments will all endure through the photos we captured that day.
Baby Eddie’s personality is already beginning to develop. He reacted to everything during his session. Whether it was moving from pose to pose or snuggling up in a basket with a sherpa blanket pulled over his chin, it was beyond adorable! Actually, that moment of baby Eddie in the basket with the sherpa blanket came towards the end of the session. He was kind of done with our photo shoot. But his playful nature still took hold and came out for one last memorable photo.
The fun part about capturing Eddie for his baby milestone photography session, aside from his sweet and playful nature, was his mile-long eyelashes! This little guy has the longest lashes I have ever seen. Whether or not they remain that way through the rest of his childhood days is still to be determined, but for now, I saw the importance of getting up close to capture them. You’ll get to see one of my favorite photos of his lashes, in the photos below!
Baby Milestone Photography Packages
If sweet little Eddie’s baby milestone photography has given you something to think about, as an experienced baby photographer, I will tell you this. It’s always best to approach the photography experience for your baby’s first year through a package. Before your baby arrives, you’ll want to find a photographer whose work resonates with the type of photos you imagine hanging on the walls of your home. From there, you’ll want to explore their offerings to see how they work with newborn, milestone, and first birthday photography packages.
It’s much easier to keep your baby’s photography experience all in one place, as opposed to scrambling at the last minute to find a photographer to “squeeze you in” for all of your baby’s milestones as they swiftly approach. I know parents who have done this, and it often leaves them in a race to beat the clock, and sometimes, unfortunately, they miss out on one of the treasured photoshoots they envisioned for their little ones.
My best advice to you is not to wait. The approach I take with my clients typically happens in one of a few ways. First, they come to me before baby arrives and we are able to work together on a comprehensive package that includes maternity, newborn, baby milestone, and first birthday cake smash photos. Second, they find me after baby is born. From there, we explore package options that provide them with all the best moments of their baby’s first year!
