Auburn WA cake smash photography with sweet little baby Samantha!

Samantha is officially one year old! To celebrate she had a fun time with her very own rainbow birthday cake, balloons, and a dance along to her favorite song. Mom and Dad reached out to me for a Luxe first birthday session to celebrate their little girl’s first trip around the sun. I was overjoyed at the thought of having their tiny girl in my studio, but even more so when they told me about the theme they had in mind.

For Samantha’s Auburn WA cake smash photography, it was going to a be a rainbows and sunshine kind of day! Lots of pretty pastel colors put together and glimmers of shimmer and shine wherever we could get it! In fact, Samantha’s Mom brought in the sweetest little dress for her cake smash photos. It was an adorable tot-sized tulle dress, covered in shimmery flecks. Of course, the whole dress was full of the same pastel rainbow colors as her theme! Mom knocked it out of the park with this dress, and I took care of the rest.

My aim for cake smash sessions is always to make sure the birthday girl or boy has an amazing time. But, I also love to provide my parents with an enjoyable experience. One where they don’t have to rush around to pick up cake, blow up balloons, or worry about cleaning up after. That’s because I take care of it all! All they have to do is pick out an outfit, if they have something special in mind, and show up.

However, from time to time I do enlist the help of Mom & Dad for some behind-the-scenes fun. For example, Samantha’s Mom just so happened to know her little girl’s favorite song. So, during the session, Mom put on the song to get Samantha in a celebratory mood. She danced and clapped along to her favorite bop while I snapped away. The result was absolutely priceless, and Mom totally came through with a fun way to liven up the mood!

There was one other piece of behind-the-scenes magic to make Samantha’s session come to life. We wanted to capture some photos of our birthday girl with an adorable flower crown on top of her beautiful locks. But, Mom wasn’t so sure we’d be able to get the flower crown to stay on. I will admit, I understand the struggle when it comes to hair pieces and little ones. They love to rip them off as soon as they are aware of their presence! But, after over 20 years in the business of photographing little ones, I’ve picked up a trick or two. Tricks that allow those pretty little hair pieces to stay in place, with no discomfort, long enough for us to get the shot!

One last bit of fun we had in the studio for Samantha’s cake smash photography was her imagination image. The package that Mom & Dad selected for Samantha came with the selection of one imagination photo. A photo so special that it allowed us to create an iconic lantern scene that even Rapunzel would be proud of. You can see that image and more when you scroll through the photos below.
